Bachelor in Engineering September 2014 – April 2019
Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering
Mechanical, Co-op Option
Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario
4th Year, CGPA 8.38, (B)
Expected graduation date: April 2019
Relevant Skills and Experience
Technical Skills
- Used Microsoft Excel to manage the data for the City of Ottawa’s streetlights and to perform lighting audits on commercial buildings
- Employed EnergyPlus to create a simulation that was used to design optimal windows, thermal mass, and hydronic floors for a passive solar house
- Utilized Microsoft Word to prepare lighting audit reports for clients
- Designed city street lighting for major arterials using AGi32 to meet IES standards
- Applied AutoCAD, MicroStation and Civil3D to create orthographic drawings, isometric drawings, and topographic maps
Communication Skills
- Wrote clear and detailed field reports of quality control tests performed and results reported during site trips to guarantee that the employer could not be held liable for unmet specifications and/or material failure
- Used Microsoft PowerPoint to efficaciously present progress and results on an EnergyPlus simulation
- Acted as team leader in a group project by guiding the discussion towards selecting a specific goal for the project, making a plan to reach said goal, discussing responsibilities for each team member, and setting meeting times to successfully complete the project
Work and Volunteer Experience
Engineering Co-op Student May 2017 – September 2018
Engineering Co-op Student at Energy Ottawa
- Aided in the design, management and exectution of the City of Ottawa Streetlight Conversion project
- Collected pertinent and specific information of each streetlight converted. Used Microsoft Excel to analyze and track the information
- Utilized MicroStation to create maps and drawings of streets and their corresponding streetlights which contractors used to install new lights
- Used AGi32 to design streetlighting to meet IES standards which resulted in an average of 70% energy savings
Research Assistant February 2016 – April 2016
Research assistant at CHEeR (the Urbandale Centre for Home Energy Research)
- Applied knowledge of heat transfer to find major sources of heat loss in the building design and to eradicate these areas of high heat loss
- Applied comprehension of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics to perform blower door test on the house to find sources of air leaks
Materials Technician May 2013-December 2013, May 2015-September 2015
AMEC Foster Wheeler, Lloydminster, Alberta
- Utilized problem solving skills to ensure tests were completed accurately and in a professional manner
- Worked independently to perform quality control tests on construction sites and to record and report results to client
- Analyzed quality control test results independently to ensure that logical results were reported to the client to ensure customer satisfaction
- Resolved conflict and clarified misunderstandings with a site owner representative by listening to his concerns, understanding his point of view, and then clearly explaining the procedure and background of the quality control tests
Projectionist February 2010 – April 2012
Galaxy Cinemas, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
- Utilized critical and analytical thinking in stressful situations when the projectors stopped working in order to minimize economic damage to employer
- Achieved position of projectionist due to ability to work independently, attention to detail, and conscientious work habits
- Adopted an attitude of teamwork and practiced time management by helping coworkers in the concession stand during peak hours in between projectionist duties
Applied Projects
Engineering CAPSTONE Project
- Applied EnergyPlus to create a simulation of a passive solar low-rise residential building in Ottawa
- Used above EnergyPlus simulation to optimize the type, size, and location of windows and to design the hydronic floors of that building
- Used Microsoft PowerPoint to effectively communicate my progress and results from EnergyPlus to my team
Communication for Engineers: Technical Report and Presentation
- Practiced written communication skills by creating a proposal for course instructor that included the project topic, scope, guidelines, and timeline
- Researched batteries and circuits to understand how batteries work in wearable technology
- Compiled a technical report written to a non-technical audience with the full details of the conducted research
- Analyzed and simplified research into a presentation that was geared towards a non-technical audience
Certifications
- Class 5 Driver’s License
- H2S Alive
- Leadership in Safety Excellence
