Duties and Responsibilities:
To ensure that cargo loads are distributed in the aircraft in such a way that the aircraft can be
maintained at the correct pitch (angle) for safe and efficient flight. This is done by distributing
the load according to specific loading instructions. It is the responsibility of the load control
officer to ensure that the cargo pallets or containers are positioned at the correct point in the
cargo hold. Another consideration while planning is that the containers that are supposed to be
offloaded first have to be loaded last.
To plan the layout and sequence of cargo loading as well as passengers seating which is
especially important for take off and landing to maintain equilibrium. Once the seating and cargo
distribution is finalised, then the load officer has to prepare a chart which will tell the pilot how
to adjust the aircraft’s settings to accommodate its load.
Monitor ramp operations for any deviations regarding the load plan.
Monitor boarding gate regarding boarding process and performs LMC if needed.
Coordinates with the flight crew regarding weight and balance.
Provide an updated Estimate Zero Fuel Weight to the captain upon arrival of the aircraft.
Presents Loadsheet to captain for his/her signature.
