Standard Chartered Bank Kenya – Custody Operations Supervisor-Corporate Actions Nairobi, Kenya • 01/2014 – 05/2019

Consistently maintained a good working relationship with the registrars, Central Depository and settlement Corporation and the Capital Market Authorities. Coordinated timely provision of information to both internal and external auditors upon request and always made sure the information provided is accurate and complete before seeking approval from my manager. Identified hotspot scenario in which two to three corporate action events in a quarter went unrecorded for tracking and could only be picked upon client querying. Implemented process enhancement for event logging on register and developed a sound event tracking by introducing reconciliation checks for all the event critical dates to achieve effective event monitoring. Achieved seamless process flow and effectively took control of corporate actions processing and hence, • No event was missed upon announcement. 100 percent event tracking was realized • All holdings were correctly updated on record date. • Payments were disbursed correctly on pay date without processing gaps Observed escalating number of client queries and noted that query resolution was not consistently provided within agreed timeframes of 12 hours upon receipt. Further investigations indicated that this was due to failure to update and maintain client records appropriately. By holding myself accountable championed a timely and thorough event management process in line with announcement notifications, book close and pay-date in which below was completed; • Notification Reconciliation-Event announcement notification for all messages going out to clients via MT564s against system generated eligibilities. • Book Close Date/Record Date Reconciliation-Reconciliation of client holding as at record date against Central Depository and settlement Corporation- CDSC. • Pay date reconciliation-Reconciliation of client entitlements against issuer payment list. • Queries significantly reduced from an average of 23 to 5 in a week and query resolution turnaround time was consistently achievable within 12 hours with zero exceptions. • Income repatriation for foreign clients was lengthy and time consuming. Turned around corporate actions income repatriations for clients with Standing Instructions by introducing a simplified process. Completed pre-populated MT202 forms on which specific beneficiary details were maintained for future repatriations. Repatriation time was reduced from 15 minutes to 5 minutes on average per transaction with no errors. Proactively managed delayed income payments from registrars by maintaining a detailed extract and circulation of corporate actions open events items report. The report captured pending dividend payments for chasing with the registrar. Pending items in this report could only be closed upon receipt of the dividend payments. In achieving my objectives employed effective time management when dealing with clients with proper coordination and accountability. Updated operational process changes in our departmental operations instructions document. By doing Key Control Self-Assessment (KCSA) enhanced timely detection of hot spots and adherence to compliance in readiness for audit.

Standard Chartered Bank Kenya – Custody Services Supervisor- Payments Nairobi, Kenya • 10/2010 – 12/2013

Processing of payments was manual, time consuming and prone to errors. Supervised Payments processing automation for Real Time Gross Settlements (RTGS), Draft Requisitions and Book Transfers (BTs). The project; Straight to bank was very successful, achieved a paperless processing environment where clients could raise instructions electronically from the comfort of their offices. Processing turnaround time was greatly reduced from average time of 2 hours to 30 minutes for a batch. The need for a resource to deliver physical instructions or fax instructions into our offices was eradicated thus saving on cost, time and waste of printing paper. Eliminated risk of loss of instructions in transit and forgery. Digitizing this process achieved estimated cost save of USD 50000 annually. Processing was made convenient and easy as the signers did not have to go into their offices to sign on physical instructions Internal transactions in Custody initially used to be posted into the bank live system which was very slow. With help of a vendor developed a payments system. The system marked a breakthrough in payments processing because it was user friendly for both maker and Checker. It facilitated transaction uploads in controlled processing environment where a batch of 100 items could be processed in 5 minutes with zero errors as opposed to 50Min of manual posting with errors. Developed a process flow for processing of pension schemes – contributions payments. In this process, management of contributions processing for SCB nominees was greatly simplified. More than half of pension schemes channelled their members’ contributions monthly by way of checks. For amounts less than USD 10000 in the new system, time taken on batch processing of pension checks was reduced by half with no errors Learned that some clients complained of delayed query responses. Built and maintained good client relationships by timely responding to inquiries, identifying and assessing clients’ needs, resolving issues and following up with potential and existing clients to ensure satisfaction. Clients provided positive feedback on my excellent performance. Was awarded recognition certificate for service excellence.
