Job Description:
· Establish and maintain rapport with area coordinators, the medical staff, housekeeping personnel, dietary personnel as well as others concerned with the business of patient care directly or indirectly
· Advise and supervise personnel on hospital’s isolation policies. Implements the appropriate management of problems that may be of an infectious or communicable nature
· Performs daily or weekly surveillance of all patients to identify hospital-associated infection through established criteria
· Observes, investigates and helps control outbreaks or clusters of infection
· Discuss infection control with hospital personnel and participates in in-service education and training
· Maintains close communication with all supervisors, head nurses and nurse clinicians through meetings and informal discussions, ensuring primary focal point at which information will accumulate in regard to patients being admitted to the hospital with possible communicable diseases and in regard to those who may have institution-associated diseases
· Institutes, maintains and helps evaluate records and data pertinent to all surveillance monitoring programs
· Ascertains the efficiency of sterilization and disinfection methods used throughout the hospital and makes recommendations necessary
· Reviews environmental cleanliness
· Serves as consultant on infection problems related to various clinical area. Detects evidence of cross-infection and assist in the development of improved infection control
· Suggests revisions of hospital procedures and technique concerning infection control, substantiating recommendations
· Conducts periodic review of cleaning procedures, agents and schedule in use throughout the facility
· Presents infection control problems as they arise to the physician epidemiologist and the infection control committee.
