JOB DESCRIPTION

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

1.     Assist in the development and updating applicable policies, procedure and standards in assigned unit

2.     Analyze and determines staffing needs in the unit and recommends to supervising nurse for proper action

3.     Determines patient care needs in the unit

4.     Review the NCP developed by the staff nurse

5.     Assist, determines, amount and kinds of equipment, supplies, linens and drugs

6.     Participate in the supervisory staff meeting and conferences

7.     Assume responsibility for the performance of the staff in particular unit

Ø Assign nursing staff to particular patients based on training, experience and capabilities

Ø Provides nursing care to selected patients

Ø Supervises personnel in the performance of their duties

Ø Inspect work/patients care areas for cleanliness, orderliness, comfort and safety

Ø Conducts health education activities to patient relatives and significant others.

8.     Coordinates with others hospital departments/services/units and other agencies regarding patients care management

9.     Implements and evaluates policies procedure and standards

10.                        Provides nursing services feedback regarding problems

 

Duties and Responsibilities

1.     Assumes 24 hour responsibility of the staff in the unit

2.     Prepares monthly schedule of duties of nursing personnel in the unit

3.     Communicates with the patients relatives regarding needs of the patient

4.     Inspect work and patient care areas for cleanliness, orderliness, comfort and safety

5.     Coordinates with the Department Heads/ Social Services and other hospital section

6.     Coordinates with housekeeping and janitorial services for maintenance of cleanliness and orderliness of the unit

7.     Determine amount and kinds of equipment, supplies, linens and drugs needed for the patient care

8.     Follow up and assist personnel in the performance of their duties:

a.     Refers patient needs and problems to appropriate section or persons

b.     Acts as patients advocate (eg. Abandoned and overstaying patients)

c.      Communicates with physicians and other members of the health team regarding patient care.

9.     Assists the institution in the implementation of the policies, procedures and standards of nursing practice

10.Conducts quarterly inventory of ward properties, materials or as required

11.Assist in staff management and development

12.Submits necessary report on time

13.Formulates strategies to resolve problems

14.Schedule journal meeting

15.Assist and supervises during CODE 75 and others “E”

16.Receives medical supplies for evaluation and submits to technical working group (TWAG) staff

17.  Coordinates with the training staff the activities and journal meetings as scheduled

18. Coordinates with Chief Nurse re-Staff participants for training (in-house, outside) and evaluates the outcome of the training program

19. Coordinates with the pharmacy and therapeutic committee thru Chief Nurse re- the needs and problems on drugs/ meds

20. Attends quality Circle with the nursing management staff

21.Participates in planning the program/ activities in nursing training

22.Participates in overall orientation program

23.Participates in the QA Program of Nursing Service

24.Attends regular monthly meeting
