Job Description:
Works interdependently with doctors, co-nurses and other health professionals with the following responsibilities:
Perform nursing assessment systematically based on haemodialysis treatment record like cardiac status, respiratory status, gastrointestinal status, mental status, fluid status, skin assessment, condition of dialysis access.
Prepare haemodialysis machine through proper disinfection and rinsing Perform cannulation of arterio-venous fistulas and grafts.

Assist surgeon in IJ catheter insertion. Prepare IJ catheter for dialysis treatment and aseptically cleans and dress IJ catheter according to infection control protocol. Provide ongoing health teachings to patients and family members relating to their renal disease, vascular access and dialysis therapy.
Maintain competency with all emergency operational procedures and initiates CPR and emergency measures in the event of a cardiac or respiratory arrest. Carry out dialysis prescription including heparin dosage, blood flow rate, and duration of treatment, sodium modeling and ultrafiltration target.
Terminates dialysis treatment on prescribed duration and cleans as well as disinfects machine after treatment.
Educate patients on transplant awareness, catheter reduction, and laboratory values in relationship to dialysis therapy, compliance with treatment schedule, medications and fluid intake.
Actively participates in the pre evaluation, initiation, and monitoring, termination, and access homeostasis and post evaluation of dialysis patients.
Implements, administers, monitors and documents patients response to prescribed interdialytic blood transfusions, including appropriate notification of adverse reaction to physician and appropriate blood supplier. Review, transcribes and enters physician lab orders.
Proper documentation on all relevant data including physician orders, lab results, vital signs and treatment parameters, and patient status. Complete short term and long term patient care plans.
Ensure and provide appropriate vaccinations, immunizations and annual Tuberculosis (TB) testing to dialysis patients.
Keeps abreast of current haemodialysis nursing trends and continuing education opportunities. Primes the dialyser and bloodlines of the patient before the dialysis. Monitors the hemodialysis machine while the patient is on dialysis. Disinfects Hemodialysis machine. Maintains the cleanliness and sterility of Hemodialysis machine at all times. Collects water for water analysis and chemical analysis. Disinfects Water System. Backwashes Water System. Assists Doctors during their clinic, assess vital signs, administers medications, assists Doctor for minor OR procedures and performs cardiovascular procedure (ECG). Extracts blood samples from patients.
Assist in ultrasound procedure, especially on our female patients. Assists incoming patients for consultation, answers telephone calls and calls HMOs for approval of diagnostic requests.
Charges diagnostic procedures and consultation fees using Hospital Bizbox Software. Encodes Daily and Monthly Census Reports.
