Roles and Responsibilities

·         Responsible for delivering a holistic nursing care to a highly dependent and critically ill patient.

·         Formulate appropriate nursing care plans including assessment, identifying nursing problem, and providing appropriate nursing interventions.

·         Closely monitored the patient’s neuro and vital status and relaying any significant changes to the responsible Physician and other medical team.

·         Follow the international patient safety goal, ICU key performance indicators, and infection control policy in every procedures to prevent harm and infections such as VAP, CLABSI, and CAUTI.

·         Inserting Intravenous Cannula and initiating IV fluid therapy as ordered by Physician.

·         Monitoring intake and output hourly or as required

·         Obtain central venous pressure, invasive blood pressure, and intraabdominal pressure monitoring.

·         Administering medications including high alerts such as electrolytes, inotropes, sedation/epidural analgesia/muscle relaxant, and anti-coagulation.

·         Blood transfusion and monitoring for reactions.

·         Insert oral or nasogastric tube, initiate enteral feeding according to order, dietician’s recommendation or according to ICU protocol.

·         Insert straight or indwelling Foley catheter aseptically, maintained and provide sterile technique in handling foley, suprapubic catheter, and nephrostomy.

·         Initiate and maintained continuous renal replacement therapy

·         Applying bair hugger or arctic sun

·         Applying intermittent pneumatic compression device.

·         Assist Physician in procedures like emergency endotracheal intubation, percutaneous tracheostomy, insertion of central lines, chest tube insertion, lumbar puncture, etc.

·         Collaborates with other medical team like Respiratory Therapist in maintaining mechanical ventilatory support, Perfusionist in maintaining extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
