Labor Room and Delivery Room Nurse is well qualified and prepared to assist the doctors with expecting mothers and their newborns in the delivery Room.
Labor Room and Delivery Room Nurse is responsible for preparing mothers and their families throughout childbirth process and after childbirth regarding coaching on how to breastfeed and care for the baby.
Sits with and monitor patient throughout the labor
Monitors contractions and help patient with breathing techniques
Perform basic IV skills
Perform phlebotomy skills
Knowledge of hemodynamics
Administer pain medication as ordered; administer other meds to address specific medical conditions; such as hypertension and diabetes
Takes and records patients vital signs, reads fetal monitor and ascertain if problematic
Identifies and manages life sustaining physiological functions in unstable patients
Checks patients cervix periodically to monitor progression or lack of dilation
Ensures patients bed is kept dry and clean; cleans up bodily fluids expelled before and after birthing process
Cares for patients on MgSO4
Ensures patient is in proper position for delivery and all monitoring equipment is functioning properly
Aids doctors with drapes, gloves, gowns; hands doctor delivery instruments as needed during birthing process
Encourages patient to push at proper time
Records time of birth
Immediate care of newborn
Keeps any family informed of progression of birth
