Career Summary
A Senior Accountant at the Jamaica Tourist Board with over ten years accounting experience and is skilled in the use of computer applications. I am experienced in Budgeting, Strategic Planning, Organizing, Administration, Variance Analysis, Internal Controls, preparing and analysing Financial Statements.

I am driven, motivated, a team leader who is determined to get the job done. I am result oriented and as such sees the big picture and the steps needed to get there. I am a people person who adds value to the organization by constantly seeking new ways of improving the processes to ensure efficiency and the best use of the organization resources. I bring humour to my work which helps to smooth over the difficult challenges that occur on the job.

Over the years I have worked in the Shipping, Insurance, Information Technology, Food Distribution and Hospitality Industries. I am flexible, willing to learn new things and am prepared to take on a challenge. As a result of this while working as an Accounting Clerk at Shipping Association of Jamaica ( Pensions Dept) I designed and implemented a computer programme to calculate retirement benefits for staff members who have reached retirement age, thus saving man hours and ensuring accuracy of the calculated benefits.

I’ve enhanced the decision making process by providing  accurate and timely information to Senior Management by way of Financial and Management Reports, which helps the organization  to remain compliant and to make the best use of its resources. All these duties I have accomplished with integrity, honesty and confidentiality.

Accomplishments
Implemented an in-house Accounting System at Institute of Computer Technology, these services were previously outsourced. This saved cost and enabled the management to have in-house records and reports as needed, which greatly impacted the decision making process.

 

Designed and executed a computer training programme for One Hundred and Twenty staff members at Wisynco Group Ltd to use the Microsoft Suite of Programs, (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) this greatly improved staff moral and enabled them to apply the skills learned to their existing jobs.

 

Created an Accounting System at Hampton Green Gospel Chapel. This included the preparation of an Annual Budget, tracking expenditure against budget, implemented a process to document the cheque payment procedure and also the recording and lodgements of all cash/cheques received by the Church, the preparation of monthly financial reports for the Church leaders and bi-annual financial reports to the Church Body. This helped to strengthen accountability and transparency.

 

Experience
Jamaica Tourist Board  – Accountant ( 2006 – current)
Significantly assisted the decision making process by providing accurate and timely, monthly financial statements for Board and Audit and Finance Committee Meetings.
Post the Annual Budget to the system using the ACCPAC Accounting Software.
Ensured that planned expenditure conformed to budget and investigate and report on significant variances.
Reconciled Bank Statements from the overseas offices and record the gain or loss on our foreign exchange operation.
Reviewed monthly reports from the overseas offices for accuracy and prepare Journal entries to post those transactions to the General Ledger.
Prepared Audit Schedules and the Management Accounts for the external Auditors and assist them with their queries.
Assisted the internal audit department with queries from time to time.
Reviewed entries posted from subsidiary ledgers and the Cash Book for accuracy before posting to the General Ledger.
Wisynco Group Ltd  – Computer Trainer (2005-2006)
Designed and implemented a computer training course for One Hundred & Twenty staff members. The programs included Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the Operating System.
Assisted in the training of Shift Managers and other personnel to use the Vision Timer Module of the HRM2001 program.
