Job Descriptions

Utilizing the nursing process, delivers quality nursing care to surgical patients’ re-operative, intra-operative, and immediate post-operative.

As a pre-operative nurse- to provide nursing care by ensuring that patients are ready prior to surgery to facilitate the conduct of surgical procedures.

As scrub nurse- to provide nursing care by maintaining a sterile environment throughout the entire procedures to prevent occurrence of infection.

As circulating Nurse- to provide accurate, proper, systematic, efficient service to the surgical team (scrub nurse, surgeon, and anesthesiologist) and to our patients intra-operatively.

Pre-Operative:

• Admit and conduct preoperative interview and obtain data about the patient health history.
• Review cardiopulmonary clearance and other laboratory result
• Ensures that informed consent is obtained and the patient understands the nature of the procedure
• Identifies correct site and instill appropriate eye medication as ordered
• Check patients baseline vital signs including blood sugar level and identifies potential or actual health risk
• Do Intravenous (IV) insertion and IV medications as ordered
• Carry out doctors preoperative orders efficiently
• Documents all care information concisely, accurately and completely in the patient’s charts

Intra-Operative:

Scrub Nurse in different doctors in their field of specialties such as:

• Prepares the needs and assist anesthesiologist during induction of anesthesia
• Attaches patient to cardiac monitor and placing oxygen supplement to patient
• Performs surgical skin preparation and lid scrub
• Observes and enforces strict standards of asepsis
• Anticipates the needs of the operating team, especially the additional instruments or medications in cases of unforeseen complications outside the planned procedure
• Checks the cleanliness of the operating room and sees to it that all fixture and equipment are properly maintained and in good conditions
• Documents all pertinent information including clients response to the operation

Post-operative:

• Monitors client’s response to surgery to prevent complications and promote early recovery
• Carries out doctor’s postoperative orders efficiently
• Administers postoperative medications as ordered
• Gives instructions and precaution on eye care
• Educates patients thru health teaching on proper administration of eye drops and the importance of follow up
• Ensures adequate discharge planning
