PROFILE:
Ugochi is a diligent and dedicated licensed Medical Laboratory professional with a passion and drive for laboratory healthcare services quality delivery, organizational excellence and continuing professional development. She is currently working as a Senior Technical Advisor – Laboratory with Family Health International 360/ Global Fund (FHI360/GF) Project. She has over 23 years’ experience working in the Nigerian healthcare sector as a Medical Laboratory Scientist across clinical and research laboratories of which thirteen (13) years were in the development sector. Her professional working experience spanned across international organization like Family Health International (FHI) on the USAID and PEPFAR funded Global HIV/AIDS Initiative Nigeria (GHAIN) project as a Laboratory/Counseling & Testing Officer and much later as a Senior Laboratory Officer with oversight over the network of FHI-supported laboratories in five Eastern States with seventeen (17) comprehensive integrated antiretroviral treatment (ART) secondary/tertiary health facilities with HIV/TB Integrated program. Managed twenty (20) Primary Health Centers (PHC) in selected Local Government Areas of Enugu and Ebonyi states under the Global Fund project at the same time. Worked with an indigenous N.G.O funded by CDC – Centre for Integrated Health Programs (CIHP) Abuja Central Office first as a Laboratory Quality Assurance Officer and later as a Senior Laboratory Services Officer.
Ugochi has a PhD in Public Health from University of Central Nicaragua (2019), Masters’ Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma (2005), Post Graduate Diploma in Global Health Procurement/Supply Chain Management from Kent State University Ohio, U.S.A (2020) and in Industrial Biochemistry from Lagos State University, Lagos (2001) and a professional qualification: Associate Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (Chemical Pathology – 1994). She has over 16 years’ experience leading teams, designing and implementing quality laboratory service improvement projects. She is a CDC trained Strengthening Laboratory Management Towards Accreditation (SLMTA) trainer and auditor for Laboratories and laboratory personnel preparing for national and international (ISO 15189) accreditation exercise and a trainer for HIV -1 Rapid Test Recent Infection detection. She builds the capacity of laboratories towards WHO-AFRO certification and ISO 15189 accreditation, on laboratory internal audit (ISO 19011), laboratory safety (ISO 15190) and on HIV Rapid Testing Quality Improvement Initiative (RTQII). She is proficient in Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, District Health Information System (DHIS) and Lafiya Information Management System (LAMIS) with competency in analysis of disease surveillance data. Active participation in the development of laboratory networks and the provision of targeted capacity building for country-level counterparts. Her over 23 years of work experience has been in several states of Nigeria involving all levels of laboratory healthcare service systems in both the private, public sectors, Community Based Organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations. She has proven success in building the capacity of and providing technical assistance to National, State and Local Government Health Departments, Local NGOs and other partners on various Laboratory Systems Strengthening initiatives. She is experienced in managing the implementation of USG and GF – funded projects. She has also worked both as a lead coordinating teams of technical experts with varied backgrounds, and as a partner in multiple public health projects in HIV/AIDS particularly those with main objective of improving laboratory services performance and outcomes. · Provide technical leadership and technical support related to the laboratory services and management component of HIV/AIDS care and treatment in the designated zones for the Nigeria bilateral project.
