Breeding in Charge works directly with the breeding supervisor (Farmhead), and is responsible carrying out the day to day activities in the breeding areas.

Duties:

Breeding

Directly responsible for detection of in heat gilts and sows. the best time for detection of in heat gilts and sows in the morning after feeding if the sow or gilts is loose of appetite, reddening on vulva grunting, frequent urination rub marks evidence on skin restlessness sticky vulva discharge enlarge clitoris stands to back pressure and actively seek boars the sow or gilts is totally in heat after detection the sow and gilts are transferred to individual pen on the mating building. in the transferring sows and gilts sow are placed on the left side and gilts to the right side to separate the gilts to the sow. The sow and gilts are being clean especially the vulva to avoid infection during artificial insemination.

Directly responsible for insemination of semen. First is putting the teaser boar in front of the mating pen, next is I put a sandbag into the back of the sow to attain the strong sensation of the sow and gilts, cleaning the vulva with tissue then snap a small amount of semen to the vulva to insert catheter easily, insert catheter slowly counter clockwise until its lock inside. And they started to inseminate the semen pressing slowly at least 10-15 minutes until the bottle is empty. When the bottle is empty I drawn the catheter slowly clockwise and remove the sandbag. I put small amount of mistral in the vulva to fasten the drying and to avoid bacterial infection and lastly I records in the logbook by the date bred.

We have different insemination for the Gilts and Sows.

For the Sow
For the Gilts

Day 4-if its detected in the morning it should be inseminate the initial insemination in the afternoon and the review is the following day and in the morning.

Note: the day 5 detection if it is detected in the morning the initial is right after detection and in the review is the same day.
Day 4-if it is detected in the morning the initial should be inseminate right after the detection and the review as well in the afternoon and the review as day. Because gilts is very short estrus.

Directly responsible for confirmation and monitoring of sow and gilts in several days after insemination I starts monitoring for vaginal discharge embryonic death, abortion and mortalities if I encounter one of these problems I mark the sow of easy determined the problem sow and confirm if the gilts is obvious mammary gland live underlined if the sows or gilts is pregnant I mark it in my log book.

Directly responsible for transferring of sows and gilts if the sows or gilts. If the sow or gilts is 109 days on gestation period the sow need to transfer in farrowing section before transferring the pigs I clean and disinfect the sow and gilts. Transferring of due to farrow must be careful because it may affect the performance of the sow like hard labor and high stillbirth.

Directly responsible for monitoring of the feeding management in my unit we have 2 kinds of feeds during gestation period of the (1) HBM (hog breeder mash)this feeds is given to 0 to 90 days of age. And the (2) LSM ?(lactating sow mash) is Given to 91days up to lactating period I have feeding schedule in my

This is good feeding management for me to attain my breeding targets and monitoring of feeding is very important because it may affects the total litter size born and the total litter reared. And influences the numbers of embryos as live piglets in first litter. And currently advice is to limit the fees intake of the gilt may cause of high embryonic death in early pregnancy.
