The position is responsible for directing the underground mine production by providing timely, accurate and integrated information on ore reserves, geologic controls, and grade control and ore projections.
1. Monitors development and production advances in the mine, and discusses with the operators relevant issues such as whether to continue as planned or shift priorities due to recent results of mapping or sampling.
· Ensures updated mapping and sampling of all active working places by regularly conducting visits underground, and checks actual geology of advancing face/back relative to previous mapping and sampling data.
2. Strictly enforces grade control SOP’s and ensures that “clean mining guidelines “are religiously followed within the operations.
· Monitors and investigates dilution and its sources. Informs operators of observed grade control infractions (e.g. overbreak, underbreak, scouring, etc.) and recommends appropriate actions.
· Identifies waste materials underground and advises operators on proper disposal of such, whether to backfill, or ship as waste.
· Regularly reviews ore blending schemes (i.e. ore grades % contribution) to identify possible reasons for minehead-millhead variance.
· Closely monitors the stopping cycle and ensures every retrievable ore is extracted before stope filling.
3. Integrates and updates all relevant geologic information to improve the understanding of the deposit. Ensures the timely preparation of an updated, orderly and accurate geological data base consisting of existing diamond drill hole information, development mapping/sampling, metallurgical test results, etc.
4. Responsible to the preparation of plan and cross section maps and documentation of geological interpretations based on diamond drill holes. These data should be useable for Gemcom purposes.
5. Conducts on-the-job training of the mine geology supervisors, geologic aide, mappers and samplers and schedules them to attend skills and behavioural seminars to meet their career development requirement.
6. Prepares and implements the annual safety, health, security and environmental enhancement objectives and plans of his section in support to the department goals.
7. Prepares, coordinates and monitors all short and long range diamond drilling programs to attain optimum definition of ore body/ vein zones.
8. Supervises the formulation, implementation and completion of all definition drilling programs, by vein zone groupings.
9. Conducts core logging and sampling of definition drill holes and ensure timely submission of log reports.
10. Practice diamond drilling as second man and helper since June 2009 until the April 2010.
