HISTOPATHOLOGY

Accepts properly labeled specimen suspended in an adequate fixative for Histopathologic examination together with the request form containing pertinent data. Performs the gross examination of tissue.  Processes biopsy and autopsy.  Assists the pathologist in performing routine frozen section. Performs staining of routine Histological section.  Labels and files surgical, autopsy and cytological slides.  Records and makes a compilation of all Histopathology results. Prepares supply order lists and presents them to the Chief Medical Technologist for approval.  Check supplies and disposes expired reagents.  Prepares statistical reports including workloads and number of tests done.

Instruments handled: Slee Mainz Automated Tissue Processor, Leica Tissue Embedding Center. Slee Microtome, Leica CM 1850, Leica IPC/S printer

HEMATOLOGY

Performs Complete Blood Count.  Reads blood smears for leukocytes differential count and for the identification of malarial parasites.  Performs Erythrocytes Sedimentation Rate,  bleeding time. clotting time and clot retraction time.  Performs Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time and Prothrombin Time.

CLINICAL CHEMISTRY

Performs routine and special Chemistry examination.

Instruments handled: Vitros 250, Kodak Ektachem, Humalyzer 2000 and Junior, Stat Profile Phox

BLOOD BANK

Screens and collects blood from voluntary and replacement donors.  Performs reverse and forward ABO typing.  Performs Du variant for Rh negative individual. Performs Direct and Indirect Coombs Test. Performs Ortho Broad Spectrum Compatibility Testing

Instruments handled: Diagast Freelys Nano and Helmer Ultra CW.

IMMUNOLOGY AND SEROLOGY

Performs Serological tests such as Anti-Streptolysin O Titer, C-Reactive Protein, Rapid Plasma Reagin, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Widal Test, Hepatitis B Surface Antigen FT3, FT4, TSH, CA125, CEA, PSA and Beta HCG which aids in the diagnosis of different diseases.

Instruments handled: Mini Vidas Automated Immunology Analyzer

MICROBIOLOGY

Stains and reads grams and acid fast smears.  Collects specimens for culture and sensitivity testing. Performs culture and sensitivity testing.

CLINICAL MICROSCOPY

Analyzes the physical and chemical characteristics of  urine and  stool specimen.  Performs microscopic examination of urine sediments for pathologic and non-pathologic indications.
