Basic Functions:

Collaborate with the Assistant Infection Control Director in the planning, organization coordination, implementation and evaluation of the Hospital Infection Control program.  Function in all departments of the Hospital as necessary.  Practices within the limits of the profession and Hospital policies and procedures, adheres to department standards, understands the legal implications and is accountable for his/her actions.

Assigned units: oPERATING rOOM / DAY PROCEDURE UNIT / ENDOSCOPY / CSSD/MEDICAL AND SURGICAL UNIT / ONCOLOGY UNIT.

Principal Duties:

Works in collaboration with the appropriate authority and develops and monitors a process of collecting and analysing infection control data as per NHSN and CDC updated guideline.
Performs surveillance of nosocomial infections on assigned units according to approved definitions and criteria.
Identifies problems and issues related to infection control and consults with the Assistant director of infection control for solutions.
Documents disease required to be reported formally to the ministry of health.
Initiates precautions and isolation measures for transmissible disease and discontinues precautions as indicated. Makes recommendations to nursing and medical staff on appropriate isolation precautions to be used for known or suspected infectious processes.
Participates in new employee orientation and nursing service orientation to the infection control program.
Develops and participates in educational programs for the prevention and control of infections in the assigned units and maintains records of presentations.
Documents employee and patient exposures to infectious disease for which approved protocols exist and follow –up is required.
Serves as a member of the infection control Committee and other Hospital Committees as assigned.
Collaborates in the development or revision of infection control policies, in conjunction with the infection control committee.
Designs special studies, as indicated, when pathogens display unusual trends and participates in approved hospital-wide research studies as related to infection control.
Initiates outbreak investigation and control measures in Consultation with the Assistant Infection Control Director.
Oversees and monitors compliance with infection control policies and procedures among hospital staff and makes recommendations for changes.
Ensures that the Infection Control Standards for Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) for the hospitals are met.
Oversees and manages any planning meetings with Projects Management for renovation and construction, and provides recommendations based on environmental standards
Participates in the development and review of Infection Control Policies and procedures contained in the Hospital Infection control Manual.
Participates in Hospital-wide Performance improvement activities.
Follow all Hospital related policies and procedures.
Participates in self and other’s education, training and development, as applicable.
Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Note: CDC and NHSN definition Standard followed in the hospital for the HAI and benchmarking. IHI (Institute of Health care Improvement) bundle for prevention of CAUTI/CLRBSI/VAP/SSI.

Day procedure unit/eendoscopy/operating room &cssd – work performene –not limited TO:

Day procedure/Endoscopy: Handhygeine practice before and after the invasive procedure, safe injection practice is monitored. (Observation done while staff are preparing and administering medication and performing injection. (e.g,anesthesiologist,nurse)

Medical devices and instruments: Visually inspected for residual soil and re-cleaned as needed before high level disinfection.

Operating Room: Monitoring SSI (Surgical site infection) Bundle compliance followed by timely administering pre-operative antibiotics, pre –operative skin preparation disinfectant, preoperative bathing with 4% CHG, Traffic control during the procedure and normothermia etc…

Monitoring Environmental cleaning: between cases and terminal cleaning after the procedure with proper EPA-registered disinfectant.

Central sterile supply Department: Monitoring disinfectant process and sterilization, chemical indicator used for each load and weekly biological indicator performance etc…
