DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To work efficiently in clinical laboratory using standard procedures examining human specimens for the purpose of providing information for the diagnosis, prevention of disease as an assessment of health of human beings in order to obtain the most accurate and precise laboratory results, thereby maintaining laboratory reliability efficiency and with excel credibility.
To adhere to laboratory’s quality control policies and periodically assess procedures and identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance.
To maintain the laboratory record system for recording information on patient demographic specimen collection, identification, preservation, processing, quality control and accurate result reporting.
To follow all safety procedures and maintain safety equipment.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Rotating Medical Technologist

Performs Complete Blood Count manually and using automated machines.
Analyzes blood, plasma, serum, and other body fluids Hematologically, Chemically, Immunologically and Serogically.
Examines urine, stool, urinary calculi, and other body fluids as to physical and chemical properties and the microscopic details.
Cultures and stains of body fluids and discharges for microbial testing.
Performs culture and sensitivity on discharges and other body fluids.
Performs fungal culture and sensitivity.
Prepares culture media.
Charts laboratory results to the wards.
Disinfects working area before and after each use and in an event a spill occurs.
Instructs the patients, nurses and attendants the proper way of patient’s preparation and specimen collection for laboratory analysis requested.

B. As a Phlebotomist

Inspects the requests received for the completeness of patient’s data
Ensures proper patient preparation and identification before an extraction is made for an examination requested.
Performs arterial puncture and venipuncture using evacuated tubes, disposable syringes, and capillary puncture devices and lancets on patients.
Disposes sharps objects into a puncture proof container for incineration.
