AMA Computer Asst. Prof. I May 24, 1999
College-Makati Sept. 4, 2004
Duration: 5 years and 4 months
Job Description (Administrator):
Area Coordinator (AC) : I handled the area of Programming discipline wherein I manage 5 faculty in this area. My main duty was to supervise the course offering in my discipline by monitoring that the course outline still leverage with the demands in the industry sector and recommends latest technology available for our students to use. This was the primary objective from the VPAA, to monitor course offerings by course outline alignment benchmark with the industry.
Part of my responsibility was to monitor faculty under my department, observe them during class presentation twice every trimester and assess them in their teaching methodology. I present to the faculty of my assessment and discuss their strengths and weakness needs improvement.
During the meeting with the dean, I report findings about the research that I have conducted related to the course outline and faculty performance evaluation.
There were other areas for consideration in the performance evaluation of the faculty like: students evaluation using a form assessing them on their teaching performance, peer evaluation, dean’s evaluation, occurrences in a meeting, and IT related seminars, trainings and joined organization. A total of 100%, where 70% was the marking for a passing grade for teachers’ evaluation. These were the yardstick to evaluate teacher’s performance and bases for ranking and promotion or worst termination. Unless the faculty is regular Full-Time, needs a full one year observation with failing grades in all assessment was the basis for termination.
When complaints coming from students arises related to the performance of a faculty, I immediately attend to these problems and resolve them. In the event that problems cannot be resolved in my level, then I escalated the issue to the dean.
Dean: I oversee the operation of my department. I handle the four discipline in my department like: Programming, Software, Technical and Thesis, therefore, I oversee the performance of four ACs and 20 teaching faculty, basically five faculty per department with around 10 to 15 Part-Time teachers. I attend to the meeting once every week with my ACs to discuss goals, objectives, problems, concerns and solutions to the problems encountered. I delegate workload to my ACs. Also, I attend to the faculty meeting with my ACs once every two weeks or when deemed necessary like during the time of special school activities and events. Part of my responsibility was to monitor faculty, observe them during class presentation twice every trimester and assess them in their teaching methodology.
All deans at this branch were required to attend a monthly meeting with the VPAA, we are ministerial on the curriculum as these were designed from the head office and the deans task were to implement curriculum. We have the liberty to critique curriculum and impose changes when necessary or veto. The objective of curriculum being disseminated was to standardized quality education even from the remote branches like provinces of AMACC education system inclusive overseas like Bahrain , China , Pakistan etc. I recommend for the regularization and termination of my faculty under my department as when properly documented.
Along with the ACs, we prepare the subject offerings for the term 2 months ahead of time so that revisions and modifications can be avoided.
My primary objective was to see to it that the needs of the students are well addressed since they are the very reason why we are ALL here. To provide them the BEST QUALITY education our institution can offer with the BEST ambiance and learning environment we can offer.
